Secondary Education for Girls’ Advancement (SEGA), through its Continuing Education Program, is a beacon of empowerment for young women in Tanzania. Its internship program is designed to equip SEGA graduates with practical skills, professional knowledge, and hands-on experience that pave the way for meaningful contributions to their communities and beyond. This transformative initiative addresses young women's unique challenges and fosters leadership, personal growth, and community development, aligning with national efforts to enhance employability and sustainable progress.
Internship Objectives: Building a Path to Success
SEGA’s internship program focuses on three core objectives:
Skill Development
SEGA graduates gain practical training across various fields, from healthcare to banking, enhancing their career prospects and employability. This aligns with Tanzania’s National Internship Guidelines aimed at empowering graduates with real-world experience.Leadership Capacity Building
The program equips these young women with the tools to lead and advocate for social transformation, enabling them to take active roles in shaping public policies and driving change in their communities.Supporting National Development

Elizabeth – Government Hospital, Mafiga School District
Role: Lab Technician
Elizabeth is gaining hands-on experience in laboratory work at a government hospital. She attends sessions and orientations, learning to manage lab activities under the guidance of her supervisors.
"I am feeling very good and enjoying working here. It’s a beautiful place. Being at a government hospital, I gained a lot of experience and got to meet and connect with people."
Lenta – Ilula Lutheran Hospital, Iringa
Role: Nurse Midwife
A 2017 SEGA graduate, Lenta is fulfilling her dream of working in maternal health. She supports women during safe deliveries in the maternity ward.
"I am a graduate of 2017 at SEGA. I have completed a diploma in nursing and midwifery. I am now doing an internship at Ilula Health Center."
Amina – MUCOBA Bank, Ilula-Iringa
Role: Operations Intern
Amina manages customer service, marketing, account activation, and loan processing, gaining invaluable experience in banking.
"I am very happy to have been here at Mucoba. I have learned to be an accountant, trustworthy, on time, and respect customers. I am considered like any staff member that earns respect. I now feel confident and happy, for SEGA has done a lot for me. This story will never fade as I narrate to my children.”
Watende – DCMCT Hospital, Dodoma
Role: Nurse Midwife
Trusted by her colleagues, Watende takes on shifts for absent nurses and has become an integral part of the team.
"DCMCT has been a family to me. Being here for a year is a wonderful gift SEGA could give me. I feel happy, and I love my work. These people have been so passionate about me and have taught me many skills.”
Kisua – Safina Women’s Association (SAWA), Morogoro
Role: Loan Officer
Kisua trains and supports loan recipients, including SEGA graduates, to foster sustainable business practices.
"My role here is to train, orient, and visit graduates and other people who take loans. I feel good working with them, and it strengthens my skills, confidence, and how to better get people to take loans."
Antonia – Zola Electric
Zola Electric Provides solar energy solutions, offering affordable, clean, and reliable off-grid solar power systems for homes and businesses in underserved areas.
Role: Customer Care and Human Capital Intern
Antonia started on the customer care team, addressing complaints and providing solutions. She has since transitioned to the Human Capital Department, broadening her expertise.
"I am very happy to work at Zola as an Intern. I have learned and practiced a lot of new things in different departments. I started working in a customer care program where I could listen and give solutions to customers. I have now shifted to Human Capital, and I feel very good as I continue learning more and more. Thank you to SEGA for this valued present for us!”
