How FAMU Student Zayda Greene is Supporting SEGA
Meet Zayda Greene, a second-year business administration major from Baltimore, Maryland, currently making waves at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). Zayda's journey with SEGA began during high school when she supported a girl's education. This connection led her to an enriching experience in the summer of 2022, where Zayda, accompanied by her family, engaged in teaching STEM subjects at SEGA. This collective effort fostered a deep appreciation for the school's impact on its students.
Inspired by the infectious energy of the girls at SEGA, Zayda took the initiative to create a fundraiser in the fall of 2023. Reflecting on her firsthand interactions, she admired the girls' intelligence, responsibility, and discipline. Motivated to make a difference, Zayda aimed to support the next generation of change agents within the SEGA community.
At an event Zayda attended at FAMU, which centered around the mental health challenges stemming from the absence of menstrual and hygiene products, the inspiration struck to initiate fundraising for educational endeavors and supply essential products. The aim was to contribute to both physical and mental well-being.
Beyond fundraising, Zayda actively sought to raise awareness about SEGA on her campus. She strategically placed flyers in residence halls and offices at FAMU. Social media became a powerful tool as she partnered with organizations to amplify the message. Zayda emphasized, "Awareness is the first step for change."
The results were remarkable. The fundraiser garnered widespread awareness for SEGA and collected donations of $1,300.00 and a significant amount of menstrual products and materials for the girls. Reflecting on her experience, Zayda learned valuable promotion, planning, and advocacy skills. She effectively utilized her platform to maximize audience reach, demonstrating her commitment to causes she deeply cares about.
Eager to continue her advocacy journey, Zayda plans to repeat the fundraiser this year. Her story serves as an inspiration for others to get involved in initiatives that empower and uplift communities. Zayda Greene is not just a student but a catalyst for positive change, using her voice and actions to make a lasting impact.
