SEGA Teacher Spotlight: Luambano Ahmad
Meet Luambano Ahmad, one of the multitasking, hard-working members of the SEGA Girls’ School staff. When he joined SEGA in 2016, his responsibilities were as a Geography and History teacher. It wasn't long, though, before his natural leadership skills were recognized. He was quickly promoted to Assistant Academic Master and then Academic Master. Currently, he has achieved the rank of Deputy Head of School, while still teaching geography.
Raised in the Ruvuma region of Southern Tanzania, he went on to graduate from the University of Dar Es Salaam with a B.A. in Education.
As the Deputy Head of School, his primary focus is on implementing the school’s aims and objectives. Responsibilities include preparing the school’s detailed calendar and overseeing the admission of students.
Luambano says, “My greatest sense of accomplishment at SEGA is measured by observing more and more students passing their national exams every year. Only by passing their Form IV national exams are they qualified to attend Advanced Secondary School. Then I know they have a great chance of achieving their dreams of improving their quality of life for themselves and their families.”
Though challenging, he strictly follows SEGA’s covid-19 guidelines. He says, “I feel less comfortable teaching when wearing a mask because it is a new experience and I cannot speak clearly. Sometimes I feel like I run out of breath.”
Ever mindful of protecting his home family and school family, Luambano continues to take precautions even when away from SEGA. “I have not been visiting friends and relatives for so long. This is contrary to the way I am used to."
Family life helps balance Luambano’s busy school life. He is married to Zeina and they are raising a high-energy, 2-1/2-year-old son, Mehrad. In the little spare time he has, he enjoys movies like Marvel Inhumans and the X-Men series. His favorite books are the Black Hermit and This Time Tomorrow. No surprise that his favorite game is football (soccer)!
Thank you, Luambano, for your focused, passionate support of SEGA’s mission and doing everything possible to help empower and educate our students so that they may have healthy, happy, productive futures.
