The 7th class at SEGA graduated from Form Four on October 29th this year. The sixty-three girls in this class were delighted and proud to reach this very exciting milestone in their education and in their lives after being at SEGA for 4 or 5 years. This year’s graduating class was particularly noteworthy because it was one of the biggest graduating classes from SEGA ever. SEGA’s Communications Coordinator, Rhona, commented that this class was known for their outstanding academic achievement and their extremely high scores on their National Exams; additionally, the class was known for their heavy involvement in campus activities such as the entrepreneurship program, community outreach, hospitality and other clubs.

When the graduation day finally arrived on October 26, the Guest of Honor, Professor Catherine Philip Msuya, was given a campus tour and shown the different classrooms, labs, and exhibitions. The graduation ceremony was in the Big Banda and was initiated with the National Anthem followed by a short speech by SEGA’s Headmistress, Elly, welcoming everyone. Then some younger students performed skits, dances, songs, poems, plays, and speeches to say goodbye. The headmistress then gave a more in depth speech about the accomplishments of the class, the history of the school, and the education philosophy of SEGA. After the headmistress’s speech, the guest of honor spoke to the graduates and presented awards such as ‘best academic performance’. Then the girls went up onstage to receive their SEGA Certificate of Accomplishment. Additionally, a new graduation tradition was incorporated for the first time this year- fundraising! Over $775 was contributed by the graduation attendees. The ceremony was attended by teachers at the school, English fluency teachers, SEGA staff, Sponsors of the girls, Form Four parents, and other various invited guests such as neighboring schools, government officials, and community leaders. After the ceremony there was a lunch for teachers, staff members, and visitors in several classrooms and then many family members had picnics on the grass.

As you can tell from the lovely photos, the graduation ceremony was incredible and was a day that all of the graduates will surely always remember!
