SEGA’s First Google Hangout

Students and Supporters Connect Online

Last weekend in honor of International Women’s Day, we held the first ever Google Hangout with SEGA students and Nurturing Minds’ supporters. For those unfamiliar with Google Hangout, it is similar to a Skype call — allowing many people to interact over a video call.

The call focused on SEGA’s poultry program and featured 5 SEGA students and Henrietta, one of SEGA’s many hens! During the call the girls explained how to care for the chickens and how to make a profit from the hens’ eggs. SEGA’s poultry program is one of the student-run businesses that aims to make the school financially self-sustainable.

Throughout the course of the “hangout” Nurturing Minds’ supporters were able to ask questions and interact with the students. Having real-time conversations, seeing the students and getting a glimpse of the campus was a very powerful experience for all involved. A specific highlight of the call was towards the end when the students spoke about their future goals. In summary, Laura DeDominicis said, “The girls did an amazing job and literally brought tears to my eyes hearing them talk about their dreams. I was so moved and impressed by how all of them want to give back and volunteer too.”
