Welcome to The SEGA Lodge

SEGA’s Newest Opportunity for Visitors & Students

SEGA Lodge #1.png

SEGA has an exciting project to share! Over the last couple of years SEGA has been developing the SEGA Lodge – a 6-bedroom guest house for SEGA visitors. The Lodge is now up and running and offers exciting opportunities for visitors!

The SEGA Lodge provides guests and volunteers comfortable, safe accommodations while they visit the SEGA campus and provides income to the school to help sustain its operations over time. With private en suite rooms with hot water, a large indoor lounge and kitchen, located right on campus, the Lodge is the ideal place for visitors to stay.

In addition to the Lodge, the School provides some cultural-exchange opportunities to its visitors, providing students an opportunity to learn and practice cultural tourism and hospitality skills. Tourism is one of Tanzania’s fastest growing industries, specifically cultural tourism, where visitors have the opportunity to interact directly with local communities and experience life activities such as visiting schools, going to local markets and spending time in villages with various traditional societies.

Some of the specific skills that students assist with are preparing meals and giving tours around campus. Students also learn how to book local tours and activities on the guests’ request which could include a home visit, climbing a local mountain to a beautiful waterfall or visiting nearby Mikumi National Park. This first-hand experience is one of many entrepreneurial opportunities SEGA students participate in.

Over the past year with your generous support as well as the support of The Charlotte and Harry Turner Family Fund and the Weyerhaeuser Family Foundation, SEGA has expanded the Tourism and Hospitality Program and hired a Cultural Tourism Coordinator. In addition, SEGA is implementing a marketing plan for its Lodge to draw in more visitors and generate income for the school. Ultimately, the hope is for the SEGA Lodge to help SEGA become financially sustainable and to serve as a learning lab for students to get hands-on training in the growing cultural tourism industry.

We are very excited about the future of the SEGA Lodge and all it can do to help our volunteers, students and school achieve! If you, your friends, or school group are interested in visiting SEGA, please contact info@nurturingmindsinafrica.org to make your reservations at the SEGA Lodge!
